In fact, I reckoned they had as much chance of reaching the Champions League final as the Conservatives had of denying Tony Blair's Labour Party their third successive election victory.

Rafa Benitez won the tactical duel with Chelsea's Jose Mourinho. (AlexLivesey/GettyImages)
As it happens, the Tory leader Michael Howard is an avid Liverpool fan. The Member of Parliament for Folkestone and Hythe has decided to stand down as party chief 'sooner rather than later' in the wake of this week's general election defeat. Perhaps on 25 May, Mr. Howard will allow himself a trip to Istanbul, a bustling city quite likely to be transformed into 'Istanpool' for the day.

To be honest, part of me is thoroughly delighted to have been dead wrong about the Reds. No English club can boast a richer European pedigree than Liverpool. Their very presence in Turkey will add considerable lustre to the big night.

But how did so many of us in the media come to underestimate Rafa Benitez and his plucky squad? It's not as though I was the only one to fire the ball into Row Z when it came to pontificating about their prospects.

I can only speak for myself of course. An initial analysis of the draw for the last sixteen persuaded me that given Liverpool's crippling absentee list, Champions League progress was somewhat improbable. Furthermore, their Premier League form was erratic to say the least: the only consistent pattern to emerge was one of outright inconsistency.

On the surface, Liverpool lacked the quality, guile and overall strength-in-depth of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid, and the technical brilliance of Barcelona. Nevertheless, the Reds are the team heading for the plush Ataturk Olympic Stadium, while the others look on, green with envy.

Never before in the short history of the Champions League have a team so many points from top spot in their domestic league, made it to the final. How have they done it? It seems to me, by re-inventing themselves in each knockout match, to adapt to constantly changing circumstances.
Liverpool's dismissal of Bayer Leverkusen was achieved without the suspended Steven Gerrard in the first leg. We also shouldn't forget that Rafa Benitez was also minus long-term casualties Xabi Alonso and Djibril Cisse for both games against the Germans. Igor Biscan took Gerrard's place and performed splendidly in the middle of the park. Luis Garcia sparkled in both legs. Showcasing a refreshingly carefree approach, Liverpool deservedly cruised to the quarter-finals.
Juventus appeared to be an even tougher nut to crack, yet Benitez fractured Fabio Capello's tactical framework in the opening twenty five minutes of a pulsating first leg. On a poignant night at Anfield - the two teams' first meeting since Heysel - Liverpool's up-tempo, harrying style rattled the Italian side for the first twenty five minutes.

After that blistering start which produced cracking goals from Sami Hyypia and Garcia, it was a good deal more watchful. When goalkeeper Scott Carson, making his European debut, blundered badly in the second half to concede Fabio Cannavaro's headed goal, it made Liverpool's task much harder.

Yet in Turin, Liverpool stood even taller than they had at Anfield. Walking a quarter-final tightrope without the injured Gerrard this time, Liverpool never lost their equilibrium. Xabi Alonso, out for more than three months with a broken ankle made a majestic return, and dominated the game from his deep-lying position.

Biscan hassled the ineffective Emerson all night. Antonio Nunez and Steve Finnan on the right, and Djimi Traore and John Arne Riise on the opposite flank, nullified the threats posed by Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved. By the end, Juventus were reduced to pumping long balls forward for giant striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who got nothing out of Jamie Carragher and Hyypia.

It was more of the same from Liverpool in the two matches against Chelsea: staunch rearguard action, combined with tactical discipline. Oh and of course, we shouldn't forget, opportunism.

The fact is, Liverpool have been extremely resourceful during this Champions League campaign and that was never more true than at Anfield the other night. Regardless of whether you think the ball was over the line, Liverpool had the wherewithal to construct the one telling sequence, the move that settled the tie.

Benitez would surely have a future as an alchemist, if ever he decides he has had enough of football management. His tactics have been spot on in every knockout match. Benitez has created a whole (in the Champions League if not in the Premiership) that's greater than the sum of the individual parts.

Who could honestly have predicted that a team featuring Jerzy Dudek, Steve Finnan, Djimi Traore and Igor Biscan as regulars would scale such dizzy heights? Carragher was supposed to be a poor man's version of his England teammates Terry, Campbell and Ferdinand. Look at the big man from Bootle now.

Milan Baros was that lightning fast Czech who could only score for his country. Luis Garcia, that flashy winger deemed not quite good enough at the Nou Camp. Gerrard's mind was elsewhere, presumably focused on a new pad in Kensington.

So many reasons to count out Liverpool before now, yet Istanbul bound they are, and deservedly so.

Benitez has already outfoxed Klaus Augenthaler, Fabio Capello and Jose Mourinho. Is Carlo Ancelotti next on his list of victims?
<img width='1' height='1' lead...
but it was widely expected that they would falter in the Premier League...
<br the last 4 baby...!!!

But sad to say...
its not only the game that comes into or even flashed the internationally famous middel finger at it...

So now...
the talk of the town is that...
the ones which did not accepted Liverpool's friendship...
are staging an alleged revenge or vendetta when Liverpool visits Juve...

With the return leg match expected to be an emotional and important occasion...
both Liverpool and Juventus have urged thier fans to show restraint and be sensible...
after all...
everyone will prefer to watch a meaningful and beautiful game rather than to experience another 'incident'...

As for us fans in Malaysia...
our only Burglary is a form of theft. Looking at an Insurance Adjuster's point of view, it is very interesting indeed.

Not only is theft already an unfortunate event, fraud is the follow-up which usually accompaines such incident.

We ask...In the first place, how do we even prove that there was a genuine theft incident. Secondly, how do we prove that we actually lost the items we claimed we lost and last but not least, how can we prove the loss amount...???

Anyone ever sit down and think of this...???

Wut happens when a theft incident occurs and how do we actually make an Insurance claim.

Liverpool 2-1 Everton...!!!

It was a good game indeed. They needed the win, they played to win and they won.

Now we are just 4 points behind. With 8 more games to go and 24 more points to collect. 4th is possible however, assuming our neighbours drop points. Hmm...issit possible...???

A win was most welcome however, the after effects were not. 3 valueble points left us wif 5 injured players and one facing a 3 match ban. So with 8 more games to go and Champions League games to consider, it might just do us more harm than good.

Having wathced the game between the Reds and the Blues, will be the first time that we will see if Liverpool, Benitez, players and fans alike will have the character to go all the way.

Injuries and suspension will be the talk at the end of the season however, the season is not yet over.

So, I am in actual fact, looking forward to the run up to the end of the season. Will we see a team that will eventually prove themselves to be a genuine title contender or just another one of those 'basic' liverpool teams.

Luckily, there will be no match over this weekend due to World Cup Qualifiers and International Friendlies, so maybe some of the injured would be ok for the followin matches.

First up will be Bolton on 2nd of April and then its gonna be the mighty Juventus on the 5th of April. Now the Liverpool V Juventus will be the biggest match so far, clearly for the reputation of both the clubs and sad to say, also becoz of the Heysel disaster in Belgium 20 years ago. Who knows wut the real agenda will be.

I would like to see Liverpool beat Juve but everyone knows its just not as simple as that. We hope that noting bad happens on that day.

So sit back and enjoy the match.

Till here for now...

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

FORCE OF NATURE...!!!

Looks like the past weekend was one which brought our country to greater heights. And worse, the threat of friendly fire.

Sounds like the Gulf War, doesn’t it? Except it’s just a round of paintball in progress at the Sunway Lagoon.

Most of us have seen or heard about paintball, probably through friends and stories from overseas and, more recently, from home. The great news is that this high-octane game can finally be enjoyed by Klang Valley residents looking for a bit of team-building and fun.
And so I found myself at the new Sunway Extreme Park, gearing up to learn the not-so subtle art of pellet warfare. It takes an hour to learn the rules of paintball, and considerably more hours of playing to master it.

One of the senior marshals expertly initiated us into the world of paintball, the same way a sergeant-major “welcomes” raw recruits to boot camp — without the screaming of course.
He reminded the gung-ho ones how primitive the paintball weapons can be. “Don’t try to be a Rambo or Chow Yun Fat and do this (aims the gun on its side) because nothing will come out,” he says humorously, explaining that the pellet-holder above the gun supplies its contents through the law of gravity.

Safety first

One thing you learn early on is that anything involving plastic pellets flying at 15m per second means potential harm. That’s how powerful the guns can be. Safety is THE most important aspect of the sport. Thus, we were constantly reminded to keep our face masks on at all times.
The other constant reminder we got was that our gun barrel plugs (which prevent pellets from being inadvertently discharged) had to be kept on at all times until the signal to remove them was given (usually just before the game began). A rundown on the objective of the game followed.

Each “battle” was to be fought in a field divided into two and a “no man’s land” in between. Barrels and wooden boards acted as shelters for teams taking up positions. More importantly, each team had a bottle that was displayed clearly for the opposition to see.

The aim was to shoot the opposition team’s bottle. This would grant the team’s designated runner the “licence” to retrieve the flag and deliver it to home base away from the frontlines. The first team to get its flag back to base is the winner.

Being shot doesn’t mean you’re finished. The rule is that you would have to put your weapon down, run back to base and then return to the battlefield. Still, you wouldn’t want to be shot as it would rob your team of an extra man in the midst of fighting. Usually, a best of three games format is played to decide the winning team, although the duration and nature of the game varies wildly according to skill and tactics.

Itching to go, we “locked and loaded” within minutes of briefing,
All guns blazing

As the starting siren wailed, both teams took up their battle positions. Somehow, I managed to “volunteer” myself to be flag retriever, and now I was beginning to regret it. The first game was paintball pandemonium as we struggled to overcome the hail of gunfire and adrenaline buzz.
Shots whizzed past my ear. Paintball pellets were splattering all around me. We heard shouts of “Flag is down,” but couldn’t tell whether it was ours or theirs. By the time I tried to grab ours, it was too late.

The other team had got their flag back to base. The second game was crucial. We either clinched it or we were out. With the initial excitement over, a game-plan was hatched on the spot. I could sense a greater team spirit building up as we felt the urge to get one back.

The siren wailed again and one more round of intense battle ensued. Despite being shot at several times, my partner and I stuck to our guns (pun intended), running back and forth, eventually stumbling back with the flag. The sirens rang and we were congratulated by the marshals. Things were back to even, and now it was down to the wire to determine the victors. Our team held another briefing to come up with a new game plan.

The final battle was as fierce as it could get, with everyone unloading their pellets at will. We grabbed our flag and ran for victory. The finishing siren wailed, and then the bad news hit us like a one-ton truck. The opposition team had reached their base with flag in hand a mere few seconds ahead of us. In a space of 15 minutes, it seemed like we had gone to hell and back. Strangers became comrades and the “wounded” became team heroes. We consoled ourselves and congratulated the winners.

The art of war

Paintball can be fun and serious at the same time. Of course, the game is more enjoyable if tactical planning is devised early on, because the aim if after all to win. One important tip is that unless you’re a pretty good sprinter, don’t be the flag retriever. Otherwise, be prepared to be shot at by everyone else in the opposition team, including their best marksmen!

Obviously, in inter-office games the boss would be advised not to take up this role as the focus on him or her would be extra intense! Having a game plan is the best way to achieve victory. Have battle signals and strategies worked through until everyone understands them. Back-up plans are a must. We ended the day tired but buzzed by the new experience. It certainly produces an adrenaline rush that keeps you talking about it.

Paintball is best when you’re with friends or colleagues and you just want to break the routine of what you normally do. Guys and girls can get into it easily, as long as you’re keen on outdoor action. But best of all, you get to let off steam and experience some serious team-work at the same time.

o Packages available: The starter pack is RM60 per person (with a minimum six-person booking) and comes with paintball gun, face mask, barrel plug, team ID arm-band, CO2 cannister and 50 paintball pellets. type='text'>

Bloggs are up and running again...???

Looks like when I decide to write, its always due to a great moment in Football...
for Liverpool Football Club that is.

It has been hard to find time to write nowadays.
As we get old, there seems to be loads of responsibility...
which I still approach wif utmost recklessness.

Work seems to be endless...
Time flies under mach 10 velocity...
Traffic jams are preposterous...
and all the Cost cutting in the world does not help one bit.

It was nice to some of the guys updating their blogs...
kindda tell one what has been goin on...
especially relationships with frens are gettin sparce...
and we all can blame time for this.

Okie...
to cut the crap...
to wut I love dearly.

Back to a great nite of Liverpool FC football action.

Well, it has been respectible run under Spaniard Rafael Benitez's first season...
we are in the semi-finals of the League Cup...
and all thanks to Liverpool's youngsters...
it is indeed a refreshing sight to se senoir Benitez giving the younsters their dues...
and sticking with them...
It would of course be the pinnacle to eventually see the youngsters go all the way.

In Champions League, we are through to the 2nd round...
so this can only be a good thing...
so now we will have more matched to wet our appetite...

In the Premier League...
well they could be better...
however, believing in Benitez...
a cautious and nurturing approach might just work out well...
so lets see how passionate the derby game gonna be this weekend.

FA Cup's a starting...
cant wait.

Enuff of my rambling...
not many people might be reading this...
so I leave all Liverpool Fans with a nice artile posted on Soccernet...
I believe it sums up the Spanish Revolution at Anfield...
Enjoy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Benitez effect
Norman Hubbard

It was one of the most arresting sights of the season.

Away at Champions League semi-finalists Deportivo La Coruna, a Liverpool player picked up the ball in a crowded midfield and set off for the penalty box, leaving opponents trailing in his wake. As defender after defender became preoccupied by his surge forward, he passed to the unmarked John Arne Riise, whose low cross was inadvertently turned in by Jorge Andrade for the winning goal.

It sounds entirely typical of Steven Gerrard; such driving runs are an integral part of his game. Except this wasn't Gerrard, or even Xabi Alonso.

It was Igor Biscan, the clumsy Croat invariably praised by Gerard Houllier after a hapless display in defence. Nor was Biscan's classy contribution in La Coruna a one-off. Against Fulham, he scored a sublime goal with conspicuous ease.

The blossoming of Biscan has been as unexpected as any development this season. When Rafael Benitez replaced Houllier, the £5.5 million man ranked high on the list of expensive misfits who had hampered Liverpool in the final two years of the Frenchman's reign. Instead, he has been rehabilitated in midfield.

Biscan was playing, too, as Liverpool's reserves overcame a full-strength Spurs side to reach the Carling Cup semi-finals. It was a stunning result, overshadowed by events at Old Trafford that night and Frederic Kanoute's role in Tottenham's exit. But whereas Spurs fielded Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Ledley King, Liverpool included John Welsh, Richie Partridge and Darren Potter. The unknowns excelled.

And with Watford awaiting in the semi-final, Benitez appears almost certain to reach a final in his first season at Anfield. It is a reward for six months of quiet progress under the calm Spaniard. Even if Liverpool do not overcome Olympiakos to reach the last 16 of the Champions League, Benitez has vindicated Liverpool's under-fire chairman David Moores in his choice of appointment.

After the costly pay-offs to Houllier and his backroom staff and with the wish to strengthen an understaffed strike force in January, Liverpool need the revenue that qualification would generate. Failure to do so, however, should not obscure the achievements of the former Valencia manager.

Lessening Liverpool's dependence on Steven Gerrard is foremost among them.

It is hardly an exaggeration to suggest that, if he had missed the whole of last season, Houllier's side could have become embroiled in the relegation battle. This year, deprived of their inspirational captain, Benitez's team won away against Deportivo; it at least bodes better if Chelsea come calling again for Liverpool's outstanding player.

In midfield, the arrival of Xabi Alonso has eased the reliance on Gerrard as well as addressing a lack of quality. The slight Basque has a range of passing that may be unrivalled in the Premiership, the excellence of Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes notwithstanding.

Despite the jibes at the 'Spanish Armada', Alonso and Luis Garcia would not look out of place at Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United. The versatile Garcia brings vision and an aptitude for spectacular goals, if not clinical finishing while Milan Baros, marginalised by Houllier, offers the promise of the latter.

Djibril Cisse's horrific injury means Benitez does not have to resolve the problem of how to accommodate him and Baros. It also provided an opportunity for Neil Mellor and a further example of Benitez's ability to uncover players' hitherto hidden gifts. How else can the transformation of the limited Mellor from West Ham's fifth-choice forward to the slayer of Arsenal be explained?

There was a suspension of disbelief as the lumbering striker's dipping volley beat Jens Lehmann. It is still difficult to imagine Mellor making an impact at Anfield in the long term but, like Biscan, he has played a pivotal role in a crucial game.

A change of manager has also benefited the gangly Djimi Traore, who has come to resemble an accomplished defender; only the lackadaisical Harry Kewell appears immune to Benitez's alchemy.

The three major criticisms levelled at Liverpool this season are the ineffectiveness of Kewell, indifferent away form and Benitez's zonal marking system to defend set-pieces. Mikael Silvestre twice took advantage in a time of transition to condemn Liverpool to defeat at Old Trafford and a free kick proved decisive Olympiakos beat them in Greece.

But Benitez was the architect of Spain's best back four and there have been indications that Liverpool could be similarly frugal once they adapt to zonal marking.

The obdurate Jamie Carragher has relished his return to the centre of defence and must be a frontrunner for the club's player of the year award while Dietmar Hamann's efficiency as the anchor midfielder looks certain to prolong his Liverpool career.

The dominance of Hamann, Alonso and Gerrard provided the platform for the victory against Arsenal but it was also a tactical triumph for Benitez.

While his contemporaries collect FA charges and indulge in mind games, Liverpool's low-key manager has made fewer headlines.

The blue half of Merseyside may argue that is because 'Rafael Beneath-us' and his team are nine points behind Everton. But at Goodison Park on Saturday, that deficit can be reduced and

Liverpool can approach perhaps the biggest week of their season so far with the quiet confidence their manager exudes.

PROCRASTINATION...!!!

Such a BIG word for a small human being like me.

There are so many things to write yet. I keep postponing it. Wow, my last real post was like on the 18th of February 2004. That’s so damn long a time ago.

Lookin back these past few months, loads of things have happened. Okie like Liverpool had finished fourth in the Premier League with Champions League to look forward to in the coming season.

Arsenal finish without a single lost throughout the entire season which was by no means a simple task. Hats off to the Gunners. Then there’s Man f!#%ing U who managed to win their 11th the FA Cup. Ahh…all the drama on the field.

Leeds United, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers got themselves relegated to division one for next season ending a season extraordinarily interesting season.

Then there the off the field ‘antics’ with Liverpool grabbing all the head lines, domestically that is. Club and Manager decided to part company. Then the taking over bit or bid, involving a Thai, a government and a Brit by the name of Morgan. Apart from Liverpool, Chelsea also has their fair bit of share in the head lines mainly that involving the I talian Ranieri and a Russian husky with a Roman name.

On the European front, Valencia beat Marseille to claim the UEFA Cup while two unknown but now notoriously known Porto and Monaco for their gallant effort in the Champions League triumph and defeat respectively. Now everybody wants a piece of them.

Neways…there’s just too much to rant on. So I will keep it short for now and hope that I can find myself bloggin more often.

So have a nice day…where ever our are…!!!

PLAYER PROFILE NO. 2...Michael Owen (10)...!!!

To be completed...

ROUND UP...!!! Round UP...!!! PART 2...!!!

So one game down...one more to go...!!!

Liverpool 1-1 Portsmouth...!!! (FA Cup)

This match was live...yet I did NOT manage to catch it...damn...!!! I was sooo geared up to watch this match hoping that it would be a convincing win for the Reds. I fell asleep 5 minutes shy of the kick off. Haih...!!! Like dat oso can. I just couldnt contain the tiredness on that day.

Okie...this is wut I know. It was good in the beginning 15 minutes then it was basically down hill from then on. Same old reasons. Missed chances and all that. Newayz, all is not end as there'z still a replay this coming weekend and yippie, it'z a holiday (Awal Muharam) on Monday. I am not gonna miss this one. It'z do or die. It'z the quarter-final after this. How exciting...!!!

Okie, dats the good part. Here the bad part. If Liverpool do dispose of Portsmouth this weekend, they will meet Arsenal...yess...Arsenal...then team that still have not lost in the EPL. Sheeeze...how high can the hurdle be...???

Come on, seriously, anyone out there think they can get past Arsenal...??? They even have problems gettin pass Portsmouth. Oh gawd, I do not dare think soo far ahead. Lets take it one step at a time. So it'z gonna have to be Portsmouth first and foremost then we talk bout Arsenal.

From match reports, Stevie G still was the pick of the match. This kid must have done sumthin rite and he's on he rise. It'z really really cool to see him play. If only we have ten more like him, it done and dusted.

Oh I am soooo sleepy today. Loads of work but no mood to get on with it. Arrggghhhh...!!! But reality check...it'z time to get back to work.

So till here for now.

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

ROUND UP...!!! ROUND UP...!!!

Two games have passed since I last update my blog. Blame it on work and NO time. So lets get to the point.

The first one is the EPL match between Liverpool and Manchester City (yes the local rivals of Man U).
Results => Liverpool 2-1 Man City...!!!

This game was full of passion as it pits Liverpool and their 'old boys'. On the field that was old boy and still a club/crowd favourite, Robbie Fowler. At one time they say that he was over weight and his butt was too heavy. But he looks fit on that nite.

Then there's was Steve Mcmanaman who was inspiring towards the end of the match which would have embarrased the Reds.

Then there was another crowd favourite for reasons which fans would like to forget, is the Armani model goalkeeper David 'Calamity' James. Wanna know why calamity...ask any Red fans. Ahahahahaaaa...!!!

Then of course, last but not least, Kevin 'King Kenny' Keegan. Well this was one tru Liverpool FC legend during his palying days and brought many a success to LFC. Heck...I still admire him for his attacking (kamikaze more like it) tactics instilled in Man City. But simpathy would have to be extended as Man City is in their worst run since gawd knows when.

Anyhowz, anywayz, these old guards still command an standing ovation when ever they return to Anfield, Liverpool.

Okie...on to the game...as I did not catch the game live (not sure if it was live or not coz i still dont know), it was reported that the game was quite exciting. Maybe it was more of the fact that both Owen and Gerrard (two of the most precociously talented youngsters) scored. With this win, we are not 4th in the EPL standing.

It was however also reported that LFC still played far below they capabilities with some under achievers. Again, Gerrard gets the gong for Man-Of-The-Match. Even though were at 4th placed first time in the season, we are not assured yet. We still have Newcastle, Charlton, Aston Villa, Fulham and Birmingham (with one game in hand) breathin down our necks.

At the moment however, I would take victory in any which way it might come. I dun care...4th is better than mid-table mediocrity. So lets hope they keep on winning...!!!

U'll Never Climb Alone...!!!

PLAYER PROFILE NO. 1...STEVEN GERRARD (17)...!!!

After the Bolton V Liverpool game, I would vote Stevie G as the man-of-the-match. It'z also after this game that I now decide to add a little sumthin sumthin on the Players, firstly with Liverpool FC'z very own and then maybe here and there of other players in the EPL.

Actually Stevie G also have my vote for man-of-the-match for the match against Everton.

Born on 30 May 1980 in a town called Whiston. Wearz the no. 17 on the team jersey and plays in midfield for LFC. Has played and scored 219 and 23 1st team games and goals respectively.

This young shoulder has also been capped 20 times for England and scored 3 goals for the 'Three Lions'. A very committed and skillful (yess more skillful than David 'Pretty Boy' Beckham) player. Can be considered the modern day complete mid-fielder (a very close seconf to Patrcik Viera of Arsenal). Touted as the more likely future England Captain.

Here's wut LFC say bout this 23 year old wunderkind...

Captain of Liverpool FC and a product of the Liverpool Youth Academy, Steven Gerrard is arguably one of the brightest young talents in the English game and a vital member of Gerard Houllier's team.

Gerrard is the driving force of the team and when he is on the top of his game Liverpool more than usually win.

He also has the distinction of never being on the losing side when he plays for England, and is also a vital member of the national team.

A boyhood Liverpool fan, Gerrard is living the dream of playing for his team and is considered by many to be the complete midfield player.

The former YTS trainee has made incredible progress in such a short space of time. Tough tackling and with great passing vision Gerrard is also capable of scoring spectacular goals. Indeed his strike against Manchester United during the 2000/01 treble season was voted the club's best ever Premiership goal, in an exclusive poll on Liverpoolfc.tv

As well as collecting winner's medals in the Worthington Cup (twice), FA Cup and UEFA Cup, Gerrard also picked up the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2001.

Gerrard made his Reds debut in November 1998 as a second half substitute for Vegard Heggem against Blackburn. His full debut came in the UEFA Cup against Celta Vigo and despite the Reds losing on the night, Gerrard's outstanding performance belied his tender years.

It was Anfield legend Kevin Keegan who handed Gerrard his England debut and the midfielder scored his first goal for his country in Munich with a magnificent strike from 25-yards in the 5-1 win over Germany in September 2001.

Sadly for Stevie, a groin operation ruled him out of the England World Cup squad for the 2002 finals.

Gerard Houllier made him club captain ahead of the UEFA Cup clash with Olimpija Ljubljana in October 2003.

LFC is really blessed with great talents like Fowler, Owen, Gerrard, Carragher and etc., however, they do not have a Manager who can polish these stones into diamonds and turing them into all time greats. Many of Liverpool's talented youngster had come and gone without bein the modern legend for LFC. Wil we see one in the near future...???

As much as I hate to say it but we need some wunderkind of a manager like Alex Ferguson (Man U) to turn these youngsters into men.

Next Up...Michael Owen...!!!

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

BOLTON 2-2 LIVERPOOL...!!!

All square again. It was a touch of deja vu. U cant help but feel that it was Liverpool V Everton all over again.

After last nite'z game, Liverpool is now 6th in the ELP standing. This cannot be good if they want Champions League football next season. Newcastle have now overtook Charton and Liverpool to the 4th spot. With Charlton to play tonite, the gap seems to be widening (minding u that we are talkin bout the 4th spot).

Apart from these, Fulham is breathin down our LFC'z neck too and with Birmingham having two games in hand, we might just end up in 8th spot at the end of the season. Yeah...itz a pretty scary scenario.

Okie, back to the game, again they started off with Owen and Tallec in front with Kewell, Gerrard, Hamann and Cheyrou in support from the mid-field. At the back there'z Carragher, Hyypia, Henchoz and Finnan. Last but not least, Dudek in goal.

Liverpool came from behind twice before sharing the points for the nite. The game was excitin enuff but, still no win. It'z now 4 games without a win for the lads in Red. U can see the determination and hard work but the overall controll of the game was not there. At times they dominate but the assurance of puttin the ball in the net or winnin the match was not quite there. Again, a whole lot of missed chances.

The match ended with Cheyrou and Tallec replaced with Pongolle and later Murphy. It was after the introduction of Pongolle that the Reds found some effective attacking play. However, there just issint enuff room for all the talents in the the Red'z 1st team squad.

U cant fault the lad for tryin but my personnal opinion, the game play, the tactics or wut ever one would call it, is not eminent. Rather than tryin to out wit, out play or out class their opponents (hmm...maybe should send them for the Survivor Challenge), the lads were just goin head on tryin very very hard to 'barge' their way through. Arrggghhhh...it was soo sad to see Liverpool play like dat.

Where's the good old times...??? The Pass and Move...and then tear the opponent's defence apart before exquisitely placing (and i stress PLACING) the ball into the net which is the epitome of the all conquering Mighty Reds of the 80s...!!! Oh how we miss those silky and stylish attacking play.

Although the result was not encouraging, however the lads look to be in the right attitude and maybe, just maybe, they will find their peak for the final stretch to claim the last spot for the champions league. Along the way, a UEFA Cup and a FA Cup would be most welcome... ;-)

Till here for now, have a great week ahead, enjoy yer work...!!!

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

HISTORY AND HONOURS...!!!

Alrighty, a little bit of the club'z history was revealed prior to the derby match between Liverpool and Everton. So this time, I am gonna be revealling why Liverpool Football Club (LFC) is one of the most supported club in the world. Okie...before goin to the honours list...lets understand the game abit.

The season starts off some time in August every year and ends in May the following year. The season opener is the traditional FA Charity Shield. As the name goes, itz for charity. The winner of the League (English Premier League) will play the winner of the English FA Cup tournament. The results have no bearing on the EPL season.

After the Charity Shield, the EPL season kicks off one week later. 20 teams will play each other home and away (ground/field) accumilating points along the way. A win will give a team 3 points while a draw will earn both team an equal point and a losing team will not get any points.

At the end of the season the standings of the teams are revealed and by this standings, will decide whether a team plays in the European tournaments (Champions League and UEFA Cup). Top four will play amongst Europe's best (from their respective leagues such as Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, etc.) in the very lucrative Champions League. For teams which fininshed 5th, 6th or by some other qualifications, they are rewarded wif a less glamorous UEFA Cup tournament.

Winners of the Champions League and the UEFA Cup will meet each other in the European Super Cup. There used to be a Cup Winners Cup for the FA Cup winners of Europe but then it has been scrapped for quite some time. Winner of the European Super Cup will then play against the Champions of Latin America and the winner of this will then play against the Asian counterpart Champions. Confusing...??? Nevermind...you'll get the hang of it...it football/soccer...!!!

Apart from the European competitions, the English teams will have to play amongst the lower division English team (division 1, division 2, division 3 and nationwide conference)during the course of the season in the much passionate FA Cup and the Carling Cup competitions. These two Cups eventually offers European tournament opportunity. Hence, every team has their own goals and targets.

So there's the whole season (for just the English Premier League). There'z sooo many more leagues of similar format around the world and who in their right mind would deny football/soccer the world stage.

Apart from the very special individual domestic leagues, there's the international tournament like the world renounded FIFA (International Footbal Federation) World Cup which is held every four years and the European Championship held every two year. Then there's the Latin America's Copa Americana which is held evey two year too. Overdose yet...??? Itz BIG business people...!!!

So above is basically the competitions one would expect of a club in Europe.

So now lets see why is Liverpool so successful...

League Champions (old and new) - 18 times
Division Two Winners (old) - 4 times
Lancashire League Winners (old) - 1 time
FA Cup Winners - 6 times
League Cup Winners - 7 times
FA Charity Shield Winners - 14 times
European Cup Winners (old and new) - 4 times
UEFA Cup Winners - 3 times
European Super Cup Winners - 2 times
Super Cup Winners - 1 time

Dats a whole lot of trophies...!!! But sad to say, we last won trophies was back in the 2001-2001 season and the elusive Premier League since 1989-1990.

Every Liverpool Fan is hopin for a change in fortune may all the glory years come flowing back...!!!

u'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

FOOTBALL UPDATES...!!!

Middlesbrough 2-1 Arsenal...!!!

Martin Keown got sent off and Jose Antonio Reyes put the ball into his won net to give Boro the win and a ticket to the Carling Cup Finals in Cardiff.

U'll Never Own-goal Alone...!!!

EVE OF...!!!

This year, Thaipusam and Chap Goh Meh falls on the same day, meaning tomoro, Thursday, 5th January 2004. So today is the eve of both celebrations.

Thaipusan had already kicked off at bout 6am this morning and boy was I caught off guard. They blocked off sooo many roads in Georgetown. Dammit...was late for work coz had to take a BIG round around Komtar (Penang) building.

Bad news is, Jalan Utama, from Macalister Road/Waterfall Road junction, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Brown Road junction, Gottlieb Road/Burmah Road junction, and Lorong Air Terjun will be CLOSED to traffic from 6AM today until 9PM on FRIDAY...!!! Motorist, be warned and if you have nothing to do with Thaipusan, please! please! puuhlease! dun come to town...!!!

Apart from these roads, Penang Street, Chulia Street, Chulia Street Ghaut, Victoria Street, Prangin Road Ghaut, part of Jalan C.Y. Choy, Magazine Road, Jalan Datuk Keramat and Jalan Utama will be closed in stages from 6am today. This is to make way for the chariot bearing the image of Lord Muruga which makes its annual journey to the Nattukotai Chettiar Temple in Waterfall Road from the Kovil Veedu (Temple House) in Penang Steet.

Oh by the way, a frien of mine had commented about the problems caused by the infamous illegal jaga kereta boys. Well, during this festivel, they are known to charge higher...say bout RM5 per vehicle, and they can be nasty bout it if u dun pay up. So in case u encounter any of such problems, u can contact 04 228 2222 or any local police station.

So imagine all the above but times two to it coz, its oso Cap Goh Meh. A double celebration or nightmare...??? But fear not, for Cap Goh Meh, only Gurney Drive area will be badly affected.

Hmm...but come to think of it...if it's already Cap Goh Meh, then itz the end of the Chinese New Year...boo hoo hoo... :-(

So enjoy the festive season to the very last minute...and have a blast.

Happy Cap Goh Meh to all the Chinese and Happy Thaipusam to all the Hindus...!!!

Regards,
JM

TRANSFER MARKET...!!!

The transfer market window for the English Premier League (EPL) is now officially closed. Man U bought Saha from Fulham and a Chinese youngster by the name of Dong FangZhou. Arsenal bought Jose Antonio Reyes. Chelsea bought Scott Parker. Hell even Charlton made additions to their squad.

All the BIG 3 and 1 smaller club made purchases but what about Liverpool. People have been asking questions whether Liverpool will be making purchses or who have Liverpool bought...???

So as it seems, no new players were brought into Liverpool. Whether this is due to a 'sanction' enforced on Houllier or not is still yet to be determined. All that the fans know is that Liverpool do need new players.

This is yet another one of those X-files which will remain mysteriously hidden until itz uncovered sometime in the near future (I hope).

Latest update...!!!

U'll Never Transfer Alone...!!!

LIVERPOOL 0-0 EVERTON...!!!

I'll huff...and I'll puff...and I'll blow youz away...!!!
Arrggghhhh...!!!
But it did not happened.

This game surely goes down as one of the best of Merseyside Derbies. Although I was dissapointed with the result but I was definately impressed with the lads. They dug deep, stuck in there and kept mounting the pressure to take the game to Everton. Up till the last minute before the wistle blew, they did not show that they would be giving up. And thatz the spririt all the fans should respect regardless of how poorly they actually played at times.

The game was filled wif opportunities, missed-chances, handball appeals, refferee incompetency, superb goalkeeping and possibly a high scoring result. Come to think of it, if u actually count the missed chances the result might have been like Liverpool 10-6 Everton (ok ok maybe I might have exagerrated a bit).

Le Tallec could have scored at least 2, while Gerrard could have scored at least 3, Kewell could have had 2 himself, Hamann could have added at least 1 and of all people, Carragher could have had a brace for himself. Damn...how many does that add up to...10...!!!

Okie okie, I shall not dwell much more into the result. Owen ran his socks off, but did not actually have much decent shots at goal. Le Tallec played as Owen's partner and was I impressed. This lad can hold his own. He won headers at almost every corner of the pitch and causing hell of alot of problems for the Everton defenders. This surely can only mean good news for the team.

In midfield, Hamann was superb in covering the back 4. This gave Gerrard the license to roam and push forward. A very very outstanding performance. Kewell too ran his socks off and managed a few last gasp efforts. Then there was the inform Cheyrou who was sufficient but had a quiet nite by his standards. Overall loads of chances were created.

Defence was sound but still gave my ticker a bit of a pounding. Finnan and Carragher looks to be very capable defenders cum attackers. Hmm...maybe we will see more of this type of play. Hyypia and Henchoz looks to be back to their best. No complaints from me.

Last but not least, Dudek pulled off at least 2 marvellous save to deny Everton from leaving Anfield wif all three points.

All in all, they played with the rite mind and attitude. They sweat blood and played with their hearts worn on their sleeves. A draw was fair for both teams although Liverpool deserved the win a bit more than their neighbour.

So till here for now. Enjoy the weekend...!!!

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

DERBY TIME...!!!

170th Merseyside Derby...DAMN...so old arr...???

Tomoro, Liverpool will host Everton for the 170th derby and I am yerning for it to be an explosive encounter. Any sort of win will do coz every Redders and Evertnion will know that all tactics, set pieces and wut nots will be thrown out of the window once the wistle blows. Itz the pride and passion that takes over.

A bit of history shall we...??? Okie...basically Liverpool and Everton are in the same area, which is called the Merseyside, Liverpool. Way back in 1988, Liverpool's current ground, Anfield (or Anfield Rd. back then) belonged to Everton. Yes, heart breakin as it would be, Everton was formed first before Liverpool.

In 1888 the Football League kicked off for the first time and at Anfield, Everton, Liverpool's biggest club of the day were the home side.

John Houlding, 'King' of Everton, a brewer of 'sparkling ales', a mover and shaker in Liverpool politics and a good part of the brains and money behind Everton Football Club was the owner of the Anfield Road ground. In 1892, Everton parted company with Houlding over the issue of the rent paid on the ground.

Houlding was left with a ground but no team, but not for long. He was fortunate that talented Irishman John McKenna, a member of the Everton coaching staff stayed loyal to him. With a hefty loan of £500, McKenna set about building Liverpool Football Club. He looked north for talent and assembled a team which became known as 'the team of all the Macs'. The team all hailed from Scotland with the exception of goalkeeper and Englishman, Bill McOwen…

After a modest double in their first season when they took the Lancashire League title and the Liverpool District Cup, Liverpool entered the new football league Second Division. The Macs romped to the title, unbeaten in the division. Something was happening at Anfield...gates rose from a few hundred to over 3,000 once word got around about the side's high scoring habits.

Sadly the runaway success had to come to an end and the newly promoted team crashed out of the First Division at the end of the season. However they bounced back in fine style, taking the Second Division by storm to return to the First Division determined to stay there.

After finishing as FA Cup runners-up in 1899, Liverpool captured the League Championship in 1901 under the guidance of McKenna's canny successor Tom Watson. The Anfield club had arrived among the teams to be reckoned with. 1901 was no fluke, the title returned to Anfield again in 1906 but the now established side needed more room for its growing army of fans.

Improvements to the ground included the towering hill of earth and cinders which quickly became known as the Kop after the Liverpool Echo compared it to the Spionkop; the hill where Boer guerrillas had inflicted a heavy defeat on the British army a few years earlier. Many of the men killed were from the north west, the name sticking because it was especially poignant.

So ye see, Everton have been in Liverpool's shadows and that's why it a very passionate affair full of pride and heart. Derbies are usually felt by local lads and they are the ones who are hungry to shine and win. It like an Abang Adik affair.

To date, under Houllier, Liverpool have only lost one in 10 meeting and all Redders out there will be hopin that this trend continues.

So the match will kick off at 11pm (Malaysian time) on Saturday, 31 January 2004. Make sure u catch it...!!!

So till here for now...

U'll Never Derby Alone...!!!

'PAI THI KONG...!!!'

Literally translated means "whorship the sky/heaven god". Sumthin like dat. Yess I am ashamed that I am not 'dat' Cina. See if I can find any write up on this.

Generally wut i understand of this Pai Thi Kong is that on midnite between the 8th and 9th day of the Chinese New Year, all the Hokkien (it think) Chinese will pray or whorship the sky/heaven God. Basically for good fortune.

So in another words, alot of the 'businessman' take this seriously. You would be surprise at wut these people 'offer' to the Gods. But before yer imaginations run wild, it's basically food stuffs. But the food stuffs they prepare can cook up a 9 course dinner, so to speak.

Apart from the praying and the whorshipin, the firecrackers are the 'main course' for the nite. It is now Friday mornin, 12.30 am on 30 January 2004 and the sound of the firecrackers have yet to stop. It started about 30 minutes beofre midnite and god knows till wut time its gonna continue, depending on the people who can afford them costly firecrackers.

But all in all...I am really impressed with the firecrackers here in Penang. Power to the MAX man...!!!

Where can I buy them arr...???

Okie okie...found the explanation for the above (and a bit more)...!!!

The first day of the Lunar New Year is "the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth."Many people abstain from meat on the first day of the new year because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them.

On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs.

The third and fourth days are for the sons-in-laws to pay respect to their parents-in-law.

The fifth day is called Po Woo. On that day people stay home to welcome the God of Wealth. No one visits families and friends on the fifth day because it will bring both parties bad luck.

On the sixth to the 10th day, the Chinese visit their relatives and friends freely. They also visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.

The seventh day of the New Year is the day for farmers to display their produce. These farmers make a drink from seven types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. The seventh day is also considered the birthday of human beings. Noodles are eaten to promote longevity and raw fish for success.

On the eighth day the Fujian people have another family reunion dinner, and at midnight they pray to Tian Gong, the God of Heaven.

The ninth day is to make offerings to the Jade Emperor.

The 10th through the 12th are days that friends and relatives should be invited for dinner. After so much rich food, on the 13th day you should have simple rice congee and mustard greens (choi sum) to cleanse the system.

The 14th day should be for preparations to celebrate the Lantern Festival which is to be held on the 15th night.

So my understanding of the Pai Thi Kong (or Tian Gong) was pretty accurate. Heheheheeeek...!!!

U'll Never Pray Alone...!!!

CHINESE NEW YEAR & HOLIDAYZ...!!!

Chinese New Year 2004 was pretty cool. In the English Premiser League standings, we are currently 5th. Pretty close the desirable 4th for a Champions League spot but still not close enuff. As for the UEFA Cup, well we are still in it and 3rd round here we come. Next we have the Carling Cup but unfortunately we have been bundled out of it by Bolton in the 3rd (or issit the 4th?) round. So now we have the FA Cup. Good news is that we are still in it after a hard fought (lucky maybe) match against Newcastle. So we have cleared 4th round and last 16 beckons. Too bad we cant hope for a treble again so maybe a double...??? Oh how i wish...!!!

So that's the round up till now and for now.

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

ABSENCE...!!!

It has been quite some time since I last blogged. Luckily all of then came back in one piece. Sadfully the same cant be said after the match.

We lost two influential players payin the cost for the victory. Milan Baros will be out wif a broken fibula while Jamie Carragher will be out wif a badly bruised leg and both our players will have to thank Lucas Neill for it.

The game was not shown live on Astro but from the post match lighlights, Liverpool again played superb football. It was kindda reported that Liverpool shold have won by 7 or 8 goals wif Owen having no less than 5 one-on-ones wif Brad Freidle who was marvellously outstanding.

Apart from Owen, Kewell scored. Smicer had a wonderful game wif his fine control and touches. Overall good game play, good match.

We are now 6th in the table. A very encouraging sign but would not want to jinx it. So just hope that they play good football all the time.

Next up will be Leicester.

So till then.

Have a nice week ahead.

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

Liverpool 3-0 Everton...!!!

Now let me see, this match was played on the weekend of August 30th. The main attraction I guess would be the very very beautiful Phi Phi Islands (the place where alot of hoo haa was created prior to the filmin of the BEACH - the Leonardo Di Caprio movie).

note: sowee no pics yet...!!!

Ok Ok. Back to the match. After the dull draw wif Spurs, no one on this planet would have bet on Liverpool winnin the Merseyside Derby against local rivals Everton. Hell, I was expectin an arse whoopin by the boyz in Blue.

It was dinner time in Krabi, went to this recommended restaurant for some original hot & spicy thai food and it was superb as most of the entourage was perspiring bucket loads. Nothin beats original Thai. Newayz, back to the match.

By the time we sat down on the dining table, the match was already half way through. I couldnt believe it for a moment. The Reds were leadin the Blues by one goal but hey, it was barely first half. So basically is was still too early to shout.

From the one nil lead and the way the lads were playin, it was really encouragin. Hell it was entertainin. That was the first time that one would have the feelin that the team might actually win the bloody match.

True enuff, second half came and two more glorious goals were added to the tally. It was oh so satisfying. Not only was I enjoyin the holiday, Liverpool won wif clean sheet and all but the biggest joy of it all was, it was over Everton.

Three beautiful RED sunset days over the pale BLUE seas of Krabi...!!!

Ever wondered why we managed a win over Everton when everybody knowz that the Blue half was playin much better football lately compared to their Red half?

Put it this way, Liverpool played the correct style and tactics. The passing was back. Not polished though but nevertheless, it was back...!!!

U'll Never ever Walk Alone if u play dat way...!!!

Itz National Day this weekend and all Malaysian will be celebrating Hari Merdaka or Independence Day. So wutz Independence Day?

IN 1955, Tunku Abdul Rahman headed the triumphant Alliance Party in the first-ever Malayan General Elections. The Alliance comprised Umno, the MCA and the MIC, representing the three main races in the country. His resounding victory earned him new respect in the eyes of the British who were battling the communists in a guerrilla war since 1948.

While we have seen many photographs of Tunku and other Alliance party leaders in Kuala Lumpur, we are fortunate that our readers have sent in some photographs of Malaya prior to independence. Photographs between 1955 and 1957 tell the tale of a nation in preparation for independence.

Lim Yee Ko, who was formerly the head of the Auxiliary Police of Sepang District, submitted a photograph of the late British High Commissioner Sir Henry Gurney taken a week before he was ambushed on his way up Fraser’s Hill by members of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP). Lim is standing beside Sir Henry in the photograph. He acted as translator during Sir Henry’s visit to Sungei Pelek, one of three settlement areas in the Sepang district then. The man in military uniform in the background is Lieutenant General (Rtd) Sir Harold Briggs who was appointed Director of Operations in Malaya in 1950. He introduced a strategy of resettlement to cut off supplies to the MCP. Dubbed the Briggs plan, it led to the creation of new villages.

In a photograph taken on the eve of Merdeka in 1957, Tunku Abdul Rahman is seen with local Alliance leaders visiting Dr. MPL Yegappan (in tie) who was then the town council chairman of Bukit Mertajam, Penang. This photo is submitted by Shalini Muthu Armuugam.
In remote villages, the outside world intruded in times of need, as the photograph of Red Cross Society workers in Ulu Benut, Pahang, demonstrates. Shot in 1954, the photo was submitted by Navindran Snarajah of Raub, Pahang. In the 1950s, especially at the height of the Emergency, planters and rural folk were easy prey for the communists.

As new villages were being formed, the larger towns were busy celebrating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Despite the on-going talks for independence, Malaya was still firmly in the grip of British rule and coronation arches were erected in major towns. Abdul Malik Shaari of Sungai Petani, Kedah, submitted a photograph of two arches erected near the Clock Tower at Jalan Ibrahim in “the heart of Sungai Petani”. A similar arch put up outside the Seremban Market is seen in the photograph submitted by Mike Low Hoy Boon.

In 1955 another royal celebration was commemorated by the erection of arches. That year, Sultan Sir Ibrahim of Johor celebrated his diamond jubilee. Nizamuddin Hashim submitted several photographs taken by Hashim Hamid in 1956. Although Sultan Ibrahim celebrated his 60th year on the throne on Sept 17, 1955, it seems the arches were still standing in 1956.

Although Sultan Ibrahim was initially not in favour of independence, he eventually gave his full support to the Alliance-led government in their mission to negotiate for Malayan independence in London. The Alliance had since the 1952 Kuala Lumpur municipal elections proved to be able to unite the people under its manifesto of “Merdeka”.

However, before independence was achieved, the Tunku and other Alliance party leaders travelled around the country to prepare Malayans for independence. In a photograph taken on the eve of Merdeka in 1957, Tunku together with local Alliance leaders visited Dr M.P.L. Yegappan, who was then the town council chairman of Bukit Mertajam, Penang. The photograph was submitted by Shalini Muthu Arumugam.

Md Zain Mohamed’s photographs best illustrate the Merdeka fever in Nibong Tebal, Penang. His photos of three arches dedicated to Merdeka clearly show how things had changed from colonial rule to independent self-government. The first photograph is of an arch at the junction of Sungai Acheh and Sungai Udang roads. Standing on the left of the car is Datuk Haji Ahmad Salleh, a former state executive councillor. The building in the background is the Sekolah Umum Sungai Acheh. His second photograph is of another arch with the slogan written in Jawi. This photograph was taken outside the Sungai Acheh mosque and boasts a star and crescent moon, representing Islam. The photograph of the third arch was taken in front of the Perak-Penang border. Like the arch at the Sungai Acheh-Sungai Udang junction, this one had words in Malay, Tamil and Chinese.

Liverpool 0-0 Spurs...!!!

Another one of those games? Hmm...since it wasnt live on Astro, I cant really commment on it. So I'll ave to trust the news.

It was reported that Liverpool played a very fierce attackin game. So the question is, why the 0-0 draw? Well, come to think of it, a goaless draw is not that bad. Better than losing rite?

Neways, looks like the boss is tryin to change the style of play this season. It was reported that they played some nice passing game. Now the thing is, can they do dat game after game week in week out.

The concern here was that, on the nite that they played against Spurs, they had loads of chances to wrap up and kill the game but it didnt happen. Well wut do u expect, the strikers are soooo accustomed to long balls that they cant control grounders and put it in the net. See the bad thing bout not polishing ones skills.

People might say that playin long ball is hard coz of all the chasin but let me assure u that playin a flowing pass and move game is even harder. try runnin and controllin the ball at super high speed and pass it accurately to another player while keepin the pace. So u see, if u r good wif the hard part, then the easy part is...well...easy.

For me, i'm a firm believer of the pass and move system. Itz the old boot room legacy. It should be revived.

Okie.

Gonna cut this short.

Most of u will be on loooooong holiday so, enjoy yerselves and have a great time.

Itz Liverpool vs Everton on Saturday, 30 August 2003 at 8.00 pm.

If u can, catch it.

As for me, i'll just have to catch it on repeat.

So take care people, hang loose.

U'll Never Walk Alone...!!!

What will it be for the Mighty Reds this season...???

The season has begun. The league is 2 games old. The 2-1 lost to 'Chelski'. The 0-0 draw with the 'Villians'. What's next against the 'Spurs'?

With the arrival of Australian Harry 'the Kid' Kewell, Frenchmen Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama Pongolle and the Irishman Steve Finnan, what can one expect from these players? Are they Championship material?

Armed with yummy snacks and refreshing thirst quenchers, I was looking forward to the first game of the 2003/2004 season. No wait, I mean the Reds first game of the season. Then having sat through the first 90 minutes of the season, I find myself with a sore bum and gastric complications. Then came the following weekend (Sunday) whereby another 90 minutes passed by with nauseating effect towards the extent of visiting the washroom. One could only imagine how badly the two games turned out to be.

Lets see, based on the latest news post on the various websites imaginable in this universe, it was noted that the beloved Reds are playing too much 'long ball'.

Hmm...now where have i heard that before?

Oh! Silly me. It was the mad voices in my head drumming common sense and logic from what was viewed and interpreted by the eyesight.

So the question is, how long will we have to see this carry on?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do think that the Reds should get back to the basics!

If one would assess the previous 2 matches, one would note that the passing was poor, ball control was catastrophic, teamwork was terrible, positioning was pathetic, the shooting was 'senseless' and the list goes on.

My fellow Red Fans have been asking, what's wrong with the team?

Why don't we go one by one shall we?

1. Passing Lesson: Try passing over shorter distance, say 5 to 10 yards rather than spraying the ball 3 quarters of the field and asking a hell of a lot from the forwards. It's not as if all the strikers have the legs to chase after the 'stinger missile' long balls neither are they all 'Bruno' Heskey.

2. Ball Control Lesson: Looks like all the other teams manage this rather well except for our Mighty Reds. First touch at the back, the center and the front are soooo poor that none of the players are now comfortable with the ball at their feet. So how do one expect to do anything else?

3. Teamwork Lesson: Remember the phrase, "there's no I in team" well as i reckon there's no other alphabets (apart from the T.E.A.M.) either in the Reds TEAM. There's no communication amongst the players. Unless the players are all mind readers I don't see how they can understand one another.

4. Positioning Lesson: The year that the Reds won the treble, solidity in the defence was at its best. Defenders positioned themselves superbly. It was so hard to beat them. But now, opponents seemed to be running rings around the defenders. Does one know why this happens? Lately, it's not only the defenders are out of position but practically the team. Most of the time they were caught flat footed when caught out on a counter attack.

5. Finally, the Shooting: So what if we have half a million shots on goal? It's the ball in the net that counts for all that one cares! But the saddest (is there even this word) thing is, most of the shots are not directly on goal. Balls are pumped senselessly high, wide and god knows where else. Just think, the probability of a ball entering the net would be oh sooo much higher if they were on target anywhere within the 4 corners of the goal post.

Final Lesson, it kills me to say this but, Learn from Man U!

These are all basic ball skills which seemed to have deserted the Mighty Reds.

Where's the Liverpool of Old? We sorely miss the Pass and Move game!

Houllier should seriously think of cutting down on the tactical game play and get back to basics.

Will the slumbering giants ever wake up from its hibernation?

You'll Never Know Until You've Walk Alone!

Jim
